Stacy, North Carolina, carved and painted wood, tack eyes, iron nail bill, signed Doily Fulcher 1978, published on page 46 of Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen and Philip Harvey.
Length 16.5 in.
Doily Fulcher, Sr. was born in Stacy, North Carolina on Fulcher's Creek. At the age of 23, he joined the Coast Guard where he had a thirty year career as a boatswain mate. He was a gifted carver who loved the waters and marshes of Core Sound. This curlew was fashioned in the manner of a Mason factory curlew which was at the Davis Island Club.
