Description
Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A hand-built pottery tripod jar decorated with 2 incised panels depicting the head of Quetzalcoatl, each above a register of slender glyphs. Quetzalcoatl - "Feathered Serpent" in the Nahuatl language - is the Pre-Columbian deity revered as lord of wind and sky. The earliest representations of Quetzalcoatl adorn the Temple of Quetzalcoatl in Teotihuacan, Mexico (ca. 3rd century CE) where numerous stone heads of the divine plumed snake embellish the steps of this Pre-Classic pyramid. Size: 5.4" Diameter x 6.2" H (13.7 cm x 15.7 cm)

One stabilized hairline fissure on rim. Minor chips and abrasions commensurate with age, with possible retooling to some incised decorations, otherwise in excellent condition. Great preservation to overall form.
