Two of the greatest minds of the 20th century, Sigmund Freud and Albert Einstein, met for the first time in Berlin in 1926. At the request of the International Institute of Cooperation, the two men started a correspondence at the beginning of the 1930s. The intent was to create a conversation in the service of peace with these preeminent intellectual voices. What resulted was Pourquoi La Guerre?, a conversation dealing with the question of the psychological roots of war.
There were 3000 copies printed in total, in English, German and French. The Nazis banned the publication immediately, burning the German-language copies. This is a scarce, limited-edition copy of the French-language publication.
