Impressive model of a Kula canoe of the Masawa type, with extensive sculpted and painted decoration, and two paddles.
Kula canoes were sea-going vessels with outriggers and sails and were used in the Trobriand Islands for inter-island visits. The most distinctive features of these canoes are the carved splashboards to be found at each end of the hull.
