During the economic boom and thanks to the arrival of television, people began to dream of the comforts of Hollywood life. Rampant optimism and the zest for life stimulated the market for sports cars in the States. In those years, small European spiders enjoyed a particularly happy moment: first imported by World War II veterans, they were used both in SCCA races and as everyday cars.

In this atmosphere, Alfa Romeo importer Max Hoffman asked the Biscione company to produce a Spider version of the newly-introduced Giulietta, in order to win over the American public with its sporty and elegant lines. Thus, the Giulietta Spider was born, immediately renamed the Sweetheart of Italy because of its popularity, driving pleasure and attractive lines. Equipped with a longitudinal in-line four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,290 cm3 and a power output of 65 bhp (80 bhp since 1958), which allowed the car to reach a top speed of 155 km/h (165 since 1958), it was among the most beautiful sports cars on the market. The first series was produced from 1955. The first series was distinguished by a windscreen without deflectors, narrower headlamp bezels, descending windows, a sheet metal dashboard with a black top, a glovebox without a door, a two-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring and a headlamp flashing button with the inscription Giulietta Special. The first series was distinguished by its shorter wheelbase than the later version. Produced in a limited number of examples, the Giulietta Spider 'Passo Corto' is among the most desired and sought-after models among collectors.

Chassis 00907 is among the first ones built and was delivered nova in the province of Varese. It has been in the same family for 40 years and was used for many years before being dismantled for restoration work, which was never completed. The car is complete with its correct engine, hard-top, new soft top, rims with correct studs, interior, steering wheel, bonnet and numerous original details. Complete with its second Como registration plates, registration book and CDP, the vehicle registration has been cancelled. It should be noted that the present engine is not original equipment, although it retains the correct 1315 code. The transmission has been changed over the years to a 5-speed unit from the original 4-speed unit. An interesting restoration project on one of the most desirable Alfa Romeos ever, this Giulietta is ready for an exciting second life.
