Description

John Gotti ALS to Family Shortly After his Incarceration

Lengthy autograph letter signed by John Gotti, "Love / Johnny", on a greeting card measuring 7" x 9.625" unfolded, sent from prison shortly after he was incarcerated for crimes committed as head of the Gambino crime family. Includes the original transmittal envelope postmarked October 26, 1994, and signed, "Gotti", with his prison number. Expected wear, in very good to near fine condition. Includes Letters of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services for both the ALS and the envelope.

Composed on a cheerful card, Gotti writes to his wife's sister, Marylou DiGiorgio, in part, "I feel great...I had asked someone to send me the 'Celestine Prophecy' weeks ago - well, I finally received it tonight - I should have it read in two or three days...I'd like a favor from you, would you ask Johnny if I have an outstanding tab in Glen's store or perhaps I borrowed money or his lawn mower and forgot to return it? I'm just curious...it's good that you spend some free time with your mother...have a happy Halloween - and give my love to the Boys and Melissa and naturally Johnny."

John J. Gotti (1940-2002) was an American gangster and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. He ordered and helped to orchestrate the murder of Gambino boss Paul Castellano in December 1985 and took over the family shortly thereafter, becoming boss of what was described as America's most powerful crime syndicate. In 1992, Gotti was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, illegal gambling, extortion, and loansharking. He received life in prison without parole and was transferred to United States Penitentiary, Marion.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
