George Arthur Carlson (American, b. 1940). "Taramujara" serigraph, 1988. Edition 14 of 250. Artist's signature, date, and edition number handwritten in black on lower right. A colorful serigraph by George Carlson, depicting a half-length portrait of a Taramujara man in profile, holding his hand up before his face, perhaps to shield his eyes from the bright sun. The handsome figure wears traditional clothing and a magnificent turkey feather headdress. All is delineated in Carlson's expressive style and vibrant color palette. When "Southwest Art" asked Carlson what subject matter he is drawn to the artist replied, "I like the heavy horses for their powerful grace, ballerinas for their delicate grace, Taramujara Indians for their elemental grace, and nude ... Well … for all of their grace." ("Artists' Studios / George Carlson" Southwest Art, January 17, 2012) A captivating portrayal of a Taramuhara man of an impressive scale, set in an attractive custom frame. Size (image): 26" L x 21.125" W (66 cm x 53.7 cm) Size (frame): 34.5" L x 29.625" W (87.6 cm x 75.2 cm)
