Hiroaki (Shotei) Takahashi (Japanese, 1871-1945). "Thunder Shower at Tateishi" woodblock, 1936, published by Watanabe in 1936. Cat. No. 223. A beautiful woodblock print by Japanese artist Takahashi Shotei who was active in the Shin-Hanga art movement and a co-founder (with Terazaki Kogyo) of the Japan Youth Painting Society in 1889. This piece depicts figures walking in a dramatic storm with thunder and lightning at Tateishi. One figure holds an umbrella and struggles to keep it open as the wind blows, while the other holds a fishing net. A beautiful example with vivid imagery and nice coloration! Size of image: 14.625" L x 6.375" W (37.1 cm x 16.2 cm) Size of frame: 20.625" L x 11.2" W (52.4 cm x 28.4 cm)

Condition
This woodblock has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nice condition with nice coloration. Paper appears to have slight waviness. Red chop and black inscription at lower right. Minor scuffs/nicks to frame, otherwise intact and ready to display.
