CHARLES MANNING FURMAN (1797-1870). President of the Bank of South Carolina. Checks Signed by Large Slave Holders of South Carolina.
THEODORE SAMUEL GOURDIN (died 1859). Georgetown, South Carolina Doctor and large Slave Owner, relative of Theodore Gourdin an early South Carolina Congressman who owned over 381 Slaves at one time.
Lot of Two Partially-Printed Document Checks by major Slave Owners, each Signed.
1. Check Signed, "C M Furman" being endorsed on verso of this check, issued to James Harrison on a Bank of South Carolina account, October 7, 1859, for $7,344, Very Fine.
2. Partially-Printed Document Signed, "Theo S. Gourdin," dated April 30th, 1857, for tax of $10.52 on this Bank of Charleston account, small cancels, Very Fine.

FURMAN, Charles Manning (1797-1870) President of the Bank of South Carolina. He held a substantial number of Slaves. From the 1860 Census: Charleston, Ward 1, 15 Enslaved people, and Sumter District, he owned 95 Enslaved people (including 29 Mulatto people).
