Description
British Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber with Scabbard, 34 in. blade, 38.5 in. overall. A good example with the brown leather grip intact. The iron single bar stirrup guard is likewise in fine condition, with a white painted knot attached. The blade is maker marked ‘Osborn’ and ‘89’ on the flat edge near the crossguard and displays a few minor dings to the edge. Shows some pitting which is common in these swords. The Japanned scabbard retains 50% of its finish with much of the wear on the reverse. Between the throat screw and hanger on the spine side of the scabbard is a military acceptance stamp. Both hanger rings are present, the scabbard bears no dents or creases. A good example of this famous weapon, commonly used by the Hussars, Light Dragoons, and Kings German Legion Light Cavalry of the Napoleonic Era.
