Description
VICTORIAN TWO PIECE BUSTLE WEDDING GOWN, TRAINED, 1850 INTO 1860

This is an attractive Victorian wedding gown of the 1850 into 1860 time period that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal very light tan 2 piece bustled gown is a deaccession from the Strong Museum in Rochester New York. The gown still retains original Museum ID sew in seams, catalog tags.
Mostly hand sewn seams with longer seams done by treadle machine with irregular spacing of stitching.

BODICE
The bodice is decorated with bobbin lace duchesse lace collar draping around shoulder neck and across the front opening. Piped at neckline and shoulders. Accented with white satin ribbon around each cuff, around the bodice bottom edge and around shoulder back into the front opening. The jacket has fabric covered button front closure fastening into a tight fitting darted bodice.
The bodice is lined with white chintz cotton and has 2 fabric covered stays. The curved sleeves accented with a bow at cuffs.

SKIRT
The very full skirt is plain with no decorations except a lovely detached belt with a large formed bow, and with a hidden side pocket. The skirt closes by hooks and loops at the back and gathers with small cartridge pleats in the center back with fullness for a nice fall. The skirt is lined with white chintz cotton.

CONDITION

The gown is in very good to excellent condition. The fabric is in stable condition with no signs of shattering. Little roughness and splitting of satin ruffles at hem line of skirt, some surface soiling on train as well as few small stains. The skirt is in very good condition.
The bodice has no underarm discoloration stains. Tulle is missing in places on bodice. Duchesse lace is excellent condition. Four front darts on bodice have been let out in front with its stays, leaving four small tears.
