VICTORIAN 2 PIECE BUSTLE WEDDING GOWN, TRAINED, 1892

This is an attractive Victorian wedding gown of the 1892 time period that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal ivory brocade 2 piece bustled gown with duchesse bobbin lace bertha collar, is a de-accession from the Strong Museum in Rochester New York. The gown still retains original Museum ID sew in seams, catalog tags as well as paper report.

BODICE
The bodice comes to a point in front at waist hem and is decorated with a wide deep fall bobbin lace duchesse lace bertha collar draping around wide off shoulder neckline and falling from shoulders and covering front and across the front opening. Panel of lace fills decolletage. Lace has excellent workmanship and a lovely design.
The bodice has hook and eye back closure fastening into a tight fitting darted bodice.
The bodice is lined with an off white silk satin lining with 14 fabric covered baleen stays. Sleeves are lined in cotton. Elbow length full puffed sleeves accented with a wide deep fall duchesse lace cuffs covering lower arm, accented with 3 rhinestone paste brooches around each cuff.

SKIRT
The very full skirt is plain with no decorations except two lovely wide vertical satin pleating in front. The skirt closes by hooks and loops at the back and gathers with pleats in the center back with fullness for a nice fall. The skirt is lined with white chintz cotton.

CONDITION

The gown is in very good to excellent condition. The fabric is in stable condition with no signs of shattering. Some surface soiling on train as well as few small stains. Small tear in satin fold. The skirt is in very good condition.
The bodice has no underarm discoloration stains. Duchesse lace is excellent condition.

Deaccession from the Strong Museum in Rochester New York.

None of these minor issues detracts from the elegance of this gown, which is in wonderful state of preservation for its age.
