Description
VICTORIAN LOG CABIN BARN RAISING LIGHT AND DARK HAND STITCHED QUILT, 1900s MUSEUM DEACCESSION

This striking antique 1900's Log Cabin Barn Raising quilt, sunshine and shadows, light and dark with light and dark configurations has bars are arranged to form concentric diamond. Made from a wide variety of plaids and solid wool challis, with cotton backing. The quilt is totally hand pieced with fabrics from the 1900's. The back is a white cotton and the batting is thin. Hand embroidered with turkey feet pattern at edge. Museum deaccession. This quilt is composed of 100 pieced blocks and backing is folded over for binding. There is occasional straight line quilting in places at 8 stitches to the inch, visible on the back only.
This quilt satisfies any antique fabric lover's desire for color and pattern. Log Cabin quilts are traditionally both pleasingly graphic and sophisticated in design.

Quilt measures 72-1/2" x 71-1/2", full size quilt.
Blocks measuring 7- 1/4" square contain 5/8" to 3/4" inch wide logs. Turkey red chimneys measure 1 1/2" inches square.

CONDITION
The condition is good, some shredding, that can be seen in photos, no odors, no repairs, as found, there are several shredding fabrics in a few blocks as shown in photos. Some random holes. The damaged logs would be a easy fix. Staining on cotton backing as seen in photo. Embroidery at edge has many thread losses. I have not laundered this quilt, in as found condition. Our antique textiles are collectible and are not new and not reproductions, and have lived a long and eventful life and sometimes developing flaws. We do not launder or dry clean unless stated in listing, and most times have been in storage for many decades picking up old age storage oxidation spots.

Our descriptions are true and accurate to the best of our ability. We try to observe and report every defect that we are aware of to give the buyer an accurate description but to mention every single minor blemish is laborious and unnecessary. As condition and description is largely based on personal opinion, we ask that you look at the numerous photos carefully and decide the rating and pattern if applicable of this item for yourself.

Everything is sold As Is. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. All other condition issues are stated above. To request additional condition photos, please email oldthreads@aol.com with the lot number. Condition is a matter of opinion of the evaluator and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Clients must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction.
