Description
This skillfully made cherished piece is a wonderful example of Victorian Italian cut work and needlework. I believe this bedspread dates from the turn of the century. This spread has hand made cut work lace inserts with mythological griffins, and intricate cut work with hand embroidery on fine linen. The raised stitches are skillfully worked into the linen with raised precise satin stitches. The raised work is excellent.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS:
The bedspread measures 89" x 78". The loomed lace edging measuring an additional 3" on three sides.
CONDITION
In very good condition and I have laundered this bedspread and stored away over 10 years ago. I unfolded to examine before putting in auction and now has one small stain that will come out with its first washing, as seen it 2nd photo with word SPOT. No holes, weakness, no broken brides, no repairs, this one is close to excellent condition.
