Item Details
Description
Everyone knows Whistler etchings but what about Hornby? An excellent example of Hornby’s etching craft is this print of "Gloucester Harbor". Hornby (1882-1956) retired to the nearby artist community of Rockport capturing local scenery and exhibiting these works at the Rockport Art Association. Some of the most remarkable etchings I come across are by Lester Hornby. His images of Paris and New York are elegant and masterful, evidence of his RISD and New York Art League training. He was the artist sent out by American newspapers to document the WWI battlefieds and over his lifetime was the scriber of hundreds of etchings. This work is 9" x 11" and signed. Well framed: 16 1/2" x 21 1/2".
