This sharpener works as intended; turning the crank creates tiny shavings that fall into the receptacle. Each turn of the crank turns the pencil incrementally using a complicated clockwork-type mechanism. CONDITION: Crank is a possible replacement, unpainted version with an added base. (B) A not often seen early version of a CARAN D'ACHE mechanical pencil sharpener in original red paint on an original wood base. Complete industrial looking sharpener showing light use. CONDITION: Light oxidation and some paint loss. Original clipping drawer, fully functional, a great survivor. Condition: (Good). Dimensions: Larger: 9 - 1/2" x 6" x 6".
