先幅：20mm水戸光圀候の刀を作った刀匠本宗国の刀は古来有名でありながら現存作無く素晴らしく貴重な刀です。本宗国刀匠は初代東野英治郎、2代目西村晃主演で人気抜群の水戸黄門様の悪を懲らしめる勧善懲悪の痛快な道中を現した水戸黄門漫遊記で一世を風靡した、かの有名な徳川家康の孫であり天下の副将軍と言われた水戸藩2代目藩主水戸光圀候の刀を作る栄誉与えられ、素晴らしい刀を作った為に、水戸光圀候より相模守藤原広重の名から「宗国」の名を頂いて相模守藤原宗国と名乗った名工です。本武州下原鍛冶は徳川家康候が江戸に来るまでは関東地方では数少ない刀鍛冶の地元で古くから続く貴重な刀工です。小田原の北条氏照より照の字を授けられ武州下原照重と改めました。初代照重の四男が本広重家を起こし、武州八王子で代々幕末まで続きました。本刀は四代目相模守藤原廣重、山本藤五、大村加朴の門に入った刀匠です。江戸時代の貞享二年（1685年）（336年前）水戸光圀候の刀を作る栄誉を与えられ、鍛えた刀の出来が素晴らしかったので水戸の御老公より褒美として「宗国」の名を賜りました。本刀は真十五枚甲伏作と有りますように念入りに地鉄を十五回折り曲げ鍛え鍛錬したという素晴らしい入念作です。地金は板目肌に柾目肌を現し、刃紋は匂い出来に沸の付いたのたれ乱れ刃に互の目を交え個性的な覇気有る刃を焼き，帽子返りを長く焼き下げそのような手法が相州伝にも一脈通じます。本刀に付いた江戸期の拵えも一層本刀に華を添えています。個人蔵のため慎重保管の上、時代物のに、朱塗印籠刻の鞘ほぼキズなし
