Description
FUJIWARA KANEFUSA 23rd generation oshigata Kanefusa.
 The Kanefusa-sex swordsmiths from Mino province dates back to the Muromachi era in the 1400's.
  The 23rd generation Kanefusa worked during World War II and was a direct descendant of the famous line of sword smiths.
  This line continues today with the 25th generation Kanefusa.
 The name Kanefusa 23rd generation was Kato Koichi. He was born in 1900.
  During the Showa period he studied with Kato Jumyo and worked in Seki (Mino / modern Gifu prefecture).
  During the war years he made many sheets for the military, both army and navy, and civil servants.
  He won in this period numerous awards in exhibitions and competitions sword.
  He was 1st place (National Sword Smith) ranked in the 6th exhibition of swords held in 1941 (Slough).
  He was ranked Kibin no Retsuin 1942 Kurihara Hikosaburo the Tosho Banzuke (J.Kim).
  Many of his sheets signed as award-winning magazines. Blades of the 23rd generation Kanefusa received origami NBTHK or NTHK.
  This school of sword forging is known known for creating a special style of Hamon as "Kanefusa midare".
  There are several magazines published by Noshu Seki 23rd Generation Kanefusa that kiku-sui-comb are cut as a horimono on the sheet (not the nakago).
  These knives are not made in the Minatogawa Jinja Tanrensho and do not have any known relationship with it.
  These swords were probably a special mission of a group of naval officers or naval officers club that was associated with the battleship Minatogawa.
  This Minatogawa emblem in the same style is occasionally found on sheets by Asano Kanesane.
  It is also believed that this special order sheets and are not associated with the Minatogawa Jinja.
  Among the signatures on the 23rd generation Kanefusa sheets are:

  Noshu Seki ju Fujiwara Kanefusa
  Seki Ni ju ju San Dai Kanefusa
  Noshu Seki ju Ni Ju San Dai Fujiwara Kanefusa saku kore
  stamp some knives bear inscriptions about prices or award-winning knives.
  SHO of Seki stamps may appear on the nakago. Some of his knives were signed Nakirishi May.
  He forged both traditional and non-traditional homemade gendaito showato made using steel mill,
  So each sword must be judged on its own merits. Kanefusa sheets are found mounted in shin-Gunto (army) or kai-Gunto (navy) koshirae and shirasaya.
 The 23rd generation Kanefusa stated in the Toko Taikan, the Japanese Sword Smiths Hawley and Nihonto Meikan.
  Rare pliers punch (right) on nakago of a 23rd Gen. Kanefusa knife. Believed to read: "Registration # 211689.
