Description
This is an extremely detailed and rare original issue bird's-eye view of the then recently completed Panama Canal. It was drawn by C. H. Owens, reputedly, the first civilian artist to fly over the Canal Zone in 1925. Owens was an artist and cartographer best known for the maps he drew for the Los Angeles Times and his drawings of the battlefronts during World War II. Here he capture the scope of this incredible achievement of engineering, with great detail of the locks. Numerous insets provide in-depth details of the Gatun Locks, monuments to Balboa and Columbus, and other Canal Zone scenes. The Canal opened in 1914. Issued by the Panama Railroas Company. This is the original issue, not the more commonly found 1950s smaller size reproduction published by the Canal Zone's Engineer Reproduction Division.
