**Originally Listed At $300**

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An expressive mask representing a monkey known as Hanuman, the celestial monkey deity made from papier-mache and cotton gauze. Hanuman is also considered an ardent devotee of Rama and an avatar of Shiva, and his likeness was worn by shamans during rituals and for festivals. This mark is vibrantly painted with a white trishula symbol on his forehead for protection against evil. Size: 7.5" L x 8" W (19 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Sally Snell collection, bequeathed by her uncle Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
