Description
Antonio Cirino (American, 1888 – 1983), SLR. Oil on Board. Dimensions: 13" x 16" (framed). Every James Bond movie has a clandestine night escape or rendezvous on the pier. Why would a fishing boat be loading and moving goods in the middle of the night in Rockport Harbor? Well according to Antonio Cirino in this documentary painting – it must be smugglers or rum runners. The artist certainly takes an imaginative and creative tale to paint this beautifully executed nocturnal image of "Motif #1 Rockport". Antonio Cirino loved his home in Rockport, a retreat from the urban setting of Providence where he taught at RISD and painted in his East Providence studio. His Rockport paintings and images remain the most desired by collectors & connoisseurs. They find them the most genuine and inspired of his works. While best known for his oil painting, early in his career Cirino joined fellow Rockport artists such as Anthony Thieme producing detailed fine line etchings in the 1920s of Rockport and exhibited them at the Providence Art Club as well.
