Item Details
Description
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of Western art. He created some of the most famous and recognizable paintings in the world, including "The Starry Night", "Sunflowers", and "Irises". Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands to a Protestant family, and after a short stint as an art dealer, he became a self-taught artist. He lived a tumultuous life, suffering from mental illness and poverty, and spent time in several different cities throughout Europe. Despite his struggles, Van Gogh created a body of work that has had a lasting impact on art and popular culture. His expressive, colorful style and powerful brushstrokes helped to lay the foundation for modern art movements like Fauvism and Expressionism. Van Gogh's tragic life and early death at the age of 37 have also contributed to his enduring fame and mythic status.
