(1876) Woven Silk Portrait of President Abraham Lincoln, by Carquillat and Allardet, French, America's Centennial Period, as listed in "THREADS OF HISTORY" as Number 406, Choice Very Fine.
Woven Black on Silver Silk Portrait of President Abraham Lincoln with "ABRAHAM LINCOLN" in text below, measures a large 9.25" x 7" being on a light golden-tan Silk field. Whole and solid with a sharp, clean, impressive central design. There is a minor humidity spot at the lower right outer margin edge, laid onto a card backing for display. A large central Portrait image of Abraham Lincoln with a spread wings Heraldic American Eagle with shield and wreath of sprigs below. This handsome Lincoln Silk Memorial likely produced made for the 1876 American Centennial to be exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial. It was referred to in Frank Leslie's illustrated catalog of the exhibition. This exact type is shown illustrated in the Smithsonian's reference book, "THREADS OF HISTORY" as Number 406, page 196.
