Original United States Navy or Marine Corps Button Die
c. 1820 First Half of the 19th Century, United States Navy or Marine Corps Button Steel Die for producing Buttons, Choice Near New.
This wonderful Button Die displays a classic military design that shows an American Eagle with a "fouled" Anchor in its talons, adorned with Thirteen Stars above. This die is meant for producing buttons of 24 mm in diameter. A heavy steel die is 40 mm tall x 40 mm wide at its widest point. The Eagle's design is outstanding, having great detail and sharpness it its feathers and in overall design. The first button die of this type we have offered. This basic style of button is still used for the Navy's Enlisted Dress Blue uniform. Around 1868, the Marine Corps started using the Eagle, Globe and Anchor version.
