August 24, 1824-Dated issue of the "Rhode Island Gazette", published in Providence on Tuesdays and Fridays, with illustration of the RI coat of arms in the masthead. Lengthy reporting on the visit to Providence by the Revolutionary War General Lafayette, taking up fully 3.5 Columns on pages 2 and 3. This historic issue includes a printing of the Official "Order of Arrangements" for the reception of General Lafayette on his arrival in Providence, continued with a lengthy account of "the progress of Lafayette" detailing his departure from France, arrival in New York City, and much more. Highlighted is a lengthy account of the Reception planned for Lafayette in Providence. This visit part of Lafayette's triumphal return tour the U.S. by invitation of Congress in 1824, where he was received with great honors all across the country.
