Description
1804 1ed Volney Climate of USA French Colonies INDIANS Florida Canada John Adams
Constantin-François Volney, an 18th-century French philosopher, was known for his books on the human mind and will. However, at the end of the 18th-century, he took a voyage to the United States. The journey did not quite turn out as he had hoped, as he was accused by President John Adams of espionage. He quickly returned to France and wrote the book View of the Climate and soil of the United States.
While the title does suggest the work focuses on climate, it deals heavily with the political and social climate, paying special attention to Native American Indian cultures. He gives insight to the French colonies in Florida, as well as establishments in Ohio and parts of Canada.
