AFTER NICOLAS SANSON (FRENCH, 1600-1667) MAP OF NORTH AMERICA, hand-colored engraving on laid paper, titled "NOORDER / AMERICA. / D'oor N. Sanson / d'. Abbeville, Geographe / du Roy" in cartouche in upper left corner, "A. d'Winter Sculp" in lower left corner for engraver Anthonie de Winter (Dutch, b. 1652), featuring California as an island with sloping northern coastline, the Great Lakes with open-ended western borders, the Apaches are shown as the dominant tribe of "Nouveau Mexique", the British colonies are labeled as "Nouvelle Angelterre" and "Virginie". Housed under UV glass in a modern gilt frame, backing paper with gallery label for Antique Prints, Inc. of Ocean View, DE. Circa 1705. 11" x 8" sight, 16 7/8" x 13 7/8" OA.
Condition
Very good visual condition with some light toning and spotting, some fading to watercolor, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
