Description
a Stone-headed club. Likely Anga (Kukukuku) people, Morobe province, Papua New Guinea. Made from a large round river stone that has been worked to make it more spherical and pierced laterally for attachment to a shaft. Shaft added later and not original to the club when used as a fighting weapon. Old sticker with number “2061”. The Anga, more commonly known as the Kukukuku live in the South of Morobe province and their methods of stone tool manufacture have been well-documented. The primary shape of their weapons are rounded stone heads or discoidals, mostly made in this same quartz-rich stone. Acquired by Marc Seidler from Rudi Ceaser C. 1982. The Club is 45 inches tall and the stone mace head measures 4 inches across.
