A Fine Middle Ramu River shield, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.Of classical style for the type, the shield with raised wedge-shaped portion from the top incised with typical patterning, the sides of the shield bare and showing fine age and wear. The overall surface dry and well used. A fine old example. This type of Middle Ramu shield only displays a small mid-rib of raised incising from the top down to approximately the half-way mark of the body. The designs are classical of the type and the surface is old and shows multiple layers of encrustation and wear. This is a fine and old example.Acquired by Marc Seidler from Rudi Ceaser c. 1982. Measures 42 inches tall x 18 inches wide.
