A group of five stone axe heads, Western Highlands Province, Papua new Guinea. The group with various stone blades that were used both as tools and as wealth, various colors of the stone and sizes. Stone celts are found in many parts of New Guinea both as trade goods and as necessary utilitarian objects. The axe heads themselves are painstakingly made from stone and ground and polished, often dating back generations. These were often used in dowry exchanges but also in settling blood-feuds between villages according to Jack Edler. The stone was often traded from great distances. Acquired by Mark Seidler in the Western Highlands. The largest stone measures 12.25 x 3 inches.
