A Lot of three Highlands Dogs teeth necklaces. Highlands, Papua New Guinea.Three necklaces, the first typical with a large number of teeth sewn into a fiber band, the whole covered with sewn nassa shells; the second with teeth separated by white beads and black tubular beads; the third with teeth separated by large seeds and a pendant shell and tooth at the bottom. Dogs teeth were a traditional form of currency in the New Guinea Highlands for centuries. Long necklaces were worn as visible signs of wealth and status.Collected by Marc Seidler in the Highlands. The necklace range in length between 20 and 34 inches around.
