Description
RIFLES. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 32 1/2". Blade has a single wide fuller and is etched over half its length with various foliate, patriotic & military motifs, including a crowned "VR" and a ribbon that reads "ROYAL CARDIGAN RIFLES". The ricasso is marked "LANDON & MORLAND 17 JERMYN ST. LONDON". The Royal Cardigan Rifles were an auxiliary regiment from the Welsh county of Cardiganshire. The regiment served in Britain & Ireland through all of Britain's significant wars. The unit was converted to Garrison Artillery in 1877 and subsequently disbanded in 1909. Polished iron hilt with semi-basket guard featuring a cutout crowned rifleman's horn insignia. 3 Branches join the backstrap just below the pommel. Copper wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Polished iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear. Scabbard has a few scattered stains. (02-19374/BF). $500-700.
