French Provincial Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Commode, 19th c., the sloping edge top over three setback deep drawers, on a plinth base on block feet, H.- 34 3/4 in., W.- 45 1/8 in., D.- 23 in.
Condition
Front of case with vertical shrinkage cracks to veneer on drawers, and scattered losses to the veneer, particularly to the edges and the drawer dividers. Sides with light lifting of veneer at seams, and a few small losses to the edges of the lower side rails. Feet exhibit tide marks and worm hole damage. Half of the left rear foot is lacking due to the damage. Case with lesser scattered worm holes. Top has shrinkage cracks and initials faintly carved into it. Molding on feet lacking in a few places, and light separation at feet joints. Bottom drawer with shrinkage crack. Back of dresser inscribed in French "Casson a St. Jean d' Angety/ Dresser from St. Jean d' Angely [commune in Western France]"
