Description
Autograph note signed by William Parks. Lincoln County, Kentucky, 11 June 1800. 1 page.
Receipt for a bounty paid to one Thomas Pendergrass in 1800 for the scalps of one grown wolf and six “young ones” in Lincoln County, Kentucky.
In full: “I do here by certify that Thomas Pendirgrass this day presented to my view the Scalp of one Grown Wolf and Six young ones and took the Oath prescribed by Law to to killing them with in said county.”
William Land Parks (1758-1819) and his son of the same name, William Parks (1788-1846) are both listed in Lincoln County in the 1800 so-called “Second Census” of Kentucky. Thomas Pendergrass is also listed on the same tax list.
The document here certifies that Pendergrass has not poached the wolf pelts and has adhered to the hunting laws in place at the time. The document suggests that Parks is a county official of some kind, though it is unclear whether it is the father or son.
