Description
Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel, perhaps the base of an incensario. The exterior walls are diagonally ribbed with smooth bands in-between, and the rectangular feet bear openwork cruciform motifs that are outlined with thin striations. Size: 8.4" Diameter x 7.25" H (21.3 cm x 18.4 cm)

Condition
Professional repair and restoration to one foot, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks commensurate with age, with losses to some circular nodules along lower body, fading and some areas of fire-darkening to pigment, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in excellent condition. Great preservation to ribs on side walls as well as cruciform motif on feet. Previous inventory label beneath base.
