Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A lovely gathering of 4 hand-built pottery zoomorphic creatures from the Colima and Maya cultures. First are 3 Colima birds: a standing effigy with incised wings and annular eyes, a lozenge-shaped bird with 5 petite perforations, and a spherical figural vessel with an avian head bearing a lengthy beak. The Maya monkey is a mold-formed whistle with a three-dimensional form holding its arms above its head. The whistle's mouthpiece is situated along the bottom of the verso and creates a pleasing sound when air is blown in. Size of largest (monkey with arms over head): 2.96" W x 3.94" H (7.5 cm x 10 cm)

All pieces have small chips and minor abrasions, with light fading to pigment where applicable, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to zoomorphic forms. The Maya monkey whistle still creates a pleasing sound.
