Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca / Quimbaya culture, ca. 4th to 7th century CE. A wonderful, hand-built pottery slab figure shown seated upon a wide posterior with tubular arms bent to rest neatly atop the thighs of propped up legs. Thick, recessed bands delineate hands from arms and arms from shoulders, which support a huge, rectangular head boasting a stylized visage of sizable, slit-form eyes, a protruding nose with a pierced septum for ornamentation, a straight mouth, and a flat chin. A series of 6 drilled holes line the forehead, while 4 perforate the top periphery of the head and 3 are placed on the torso, indicating the nipples and navel. Size: 7.6" W x 10.3" H (19.3 cm x 26.2 cm)

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration over break lines. Chipping to bottom right corner and a few stable hairline fissures to chin. Some abrasions as shown, all commensurate with age. Small areas of fire darkening. Otherwise, very nice with mineral deposits to surface.
