Description
North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. A massive bone stake shaped tool known as a fid with a pointed tip and groove encircling the top. Fids were used by sailors, especially on whaling ships, in to stretch sails, maintain ropes, and work out tight / frozen knots. Size: 9.75" L x 1.5" W (24.8 cm x 3.8 cm)
