Description
Arlaud-Jurine (1751-1829)-Attrib. "Two Little Children", portrait miniature, ca.1820
A beautiful English portrait miniature of two little children, which shows all stylistic criteria of the works by the well-known Anglo-Swiss miniaturist Louis Ami Arlaud-Jurine (1751-1829). Our additional image shows one of the miniatures ascribed to him.
Louis-Ami Arlaud-Jurine (1751 Geneva - 1829 Pre-l'Eveque) was a grandnephew of the famous Jacque Antoine Arlaud. He studied in Geneva under Liotard, and under Vien in Paris. In 1802, after 12 yearlong stay in London, where he produced numerous portraits of the British aristocracy, Arlaud-Jurine returned to Geneva. He mainly painted miniatures and enamels, but was also successful in oils, pastels, and watercolors. His early works are strongly influenced by the French portrait artists, and, after 1800, by the English miniaturists. Arlaud-Jurine's works are to be seen in the Museums of Geneva, London (among others, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Windsor Castle), Neuchatel, etc.
