Significant Dave Drake "LMILES" Block Stamp 1.5 Gallon Jar / Churn. Strong possibility this piece is a true churn due to the fact that this has the original original oak lid missing dasher. This is a fresh family piece from Edgefield SC and is highly significant due to this piece was made during the silent period of Dave's work. This example has a strong block stamp "LMILES". Classic tooled Dave shoulder application with flat lug handles that proportionately fit the size of the small jar / churn. When we compare signed examples from "LM", "LM - Date", and "LM - Date - Dave", then we come to the block stamp "LMILES". We only probably know 15 - 20 to exist which puts these examples in a way more scarce desirability than the script signed examples due to the fact that we believe these are pieces from his silent period. It is extremely scarce to find a churn with the original oak lid that is a correct match to this piece. Highly significant size, form, stamp, and originality that is a fresh to the market. Condition - is outstanding with normal lug chips and one rim chip which is consistent with age and in the grand scheme of things, is insignificant due to the fact that this is utilitarian example. No repairs or cracks. Again, a museum quality example that is highly sought after and will make an outstanding addition to any museum or southern stoneware collection.
