Description
Pre-Columbian, Central or South America, ca. 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. A pecked ands polished greenstone plaque with a low relief and stylized figure carved into the surface. To the upper sides are a pair of suspension holes, which suggests this may have been a very large pectoral and pendant adornment. Geometric shapes delineating the large eyes which may symbolize an owl. While similar to ancient Valdivian carvings, this figure has rounded and slightly more organic ridges cut into the surface. Size: 5" L x 3.5" W (12.7 cm x 8.9 cm)
