Description
An ancient terracotta clay fragment of a sculpture which can be dated broadly between 500 BCE and 200 CE. A fragment of what was originally a full figure. Preserved fragments of other statues indicate that the Nok sculptors fashioned a variety of types, including standing, seated, and kneeling figures. Nok peoples, Nigeria, West Africa. The head measures 9 inches tall, on its bease it stands 16 inches tall. Provenance: Ex Charles Jones Gallery, North Carolina, USA. Also Ex Private NYC collection.

Good, what remains is stable, appears to have original surface.
