Description
Late Period to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664-30 BC.A rare sculpture of a seated ibis made from bronze and alabaster. Its intricate details are achieved by casting the legs and head separately in bronze and then assembling them with the alabaster body. The ibis is depicted with its wings closed, and its legs folded. It has a sinuous neck, a long hooked bill with deep grooves along its length, and detailed eyes. This item includes a custom-made stand. Size: L:95mm / W:75mm ; 75g Provenance: Property of a London Ancient Art gallery, formerly with Stephen Joel Albert (6 February 1941–27 December 1992), New York; thence by descent. This item has been checked against the Art Loss Register database.
