Sarah Emma Edmonds was a Canadian known for serving in the Union Army during the American Civil War disguised as a man. Nurse and Spy is a record of events during military life in the camp, fields, and hospitals of the Civil War. Edmonds participated in numerous battles, including Bull Run, Williamsburg, Antietam and Fredericksburg, in the capacity of "Spy" and as "Field Nurse" for over two years. While acting as a spy, she infiltrated the enemys lines at least eleven times without detection.
This rare first printing is features 12 illustrations by R. OBrien.
