Arrangement for Drums.
Color lithograph printed in greenish tan and black, 1941. 240x372 mm; 9x14 inches, full margins. Edition of 40. Signed, dated, titled and inscribed "Ed 40" in pencil by the artist's estate, lower margin. With the artist's initials red ink stamp, lower right. A very good impression. According to Fine/Looney, "The forties was a period of extraordinary transition in Spruance's work. The war and its aftermath, as well as Spruance's growing maturity as an artist, were among the reasons for the substantial changes that occurred. The current work and American Pattern— Barn, 1940, are among the top singular images that Spruance created during this transition. Fine/Looney 191.
