An uncommon map of Florida and the area encompassing Texas and the American West, with the whole of Mexico and Central America. Of note is California, which at this time was considered a large island. In the upper right is the English Empire which includes the future Atlantic States all the way up the east coast (Long Island is even noted). A very large Florida is shown, with the balance of the future United States shown as two huge territories—Louisiane (which includes Texas) and New Mexico. The Ohio River is mistakenly shown flowing all the way to Texas. The actual Santa Barbara silver mines at the top of Guadalayara (here labeled “Mines of St. John and St. Barbe,”) were known also as the El Dorado of New Spain.
