Description
WILLIAM W. OUTERBRIDGE (1906-1986) U.S. Navy rear admiral. As captain of the destroyer USS WARD at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, he ordered his crew to open fire on a Japanese mini submarine attempting to slip into the base, thus becoming the first American to fire a shot in World War II. Very rare signature 'W. W. Outerbridge' dated '6/31/27' [sic], cut from a register or log of some type. Fine.
