A rather nice Deutsche Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) hewer, 10.5 in. blade and 15.75 in. overall, with a black checkered Bakelite grip on the obverse, and a smooth grip on the reverse, held by the original fixing screws. A few minor chips to the finish of the pommel and minimal patina at the washer and reverse ricasso, also marked at the reverse ricasso 'Ges. Geschutzt' behind the crossguard extension. The blade is in mint condition, showing only light remnants of cosmoline. The scabbard is constructed of black-painted steel with an aluminum tip and throat, unfortunately scratched throughout, though still retaining approx. 90% of its paint. There is some notable resistance when trying to fit the blade into the scabbard. The scabbard is also fitted with a black leather frog, marked ‘D’ on the reverse and numbered ‘22’. A very good example.
