Description
A large and heavily embellished wooden female effigy with a large medicine bottle adhered to the front and two crocodile carvings attached to her form with red cloth, animal horns filled with magic ingredients and small carved wooden spirit figures are attached as well. The entire figure was covered in a kaolin clay pigments and covered in blood sacrifice. The sculpture measures 26.5 x 10 x 9 inches on custom display stand. Fon peoples, Togo / Dahomey, West Africa. Provenance: Published on two full page photo's in the Book House of the Spirit, The Danny Simmons collection by Donna Page, and was exhibited at the QCC Museum and Gallery in New York City, March-May 2010. Ex Daniel Simmons collection, Philadelphia.
