Description

1986 Ferrari 412i 2+2 Coupé Chassis no. ZFFYD24B000066229 • Always serviced by Ferrari • 29,402 kilometres • Just two owners from new • One of 576 ever built * Please note that this car will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Germany. Produced between 1985 and 1989, the Ferrari 412i was the splendid high point of the '400' series of fast, luxurious four-seaters that had begun with the introduction of the 365 GT/4 2+2 in 1972. The latter was the first four-seat Ferrari to enjoy the benefits of the quad-cam V12 engine, as signified by the '/4' suffix. The new 2+2 was based on the short-lived 365 GTC/4, using a similar chassis and a wet-sump version of the 4,390cc Daytona engine coupled to a conventional five-speed gearbox rather than the Daytona's transaxle. Launched at the 1976 Paris Salon, the 400 GT gained a 4.8-litre version of the four-cam V12 engine, but otherwise differed from its immediate predecessor only in detail. Following successful experiments carried out by engineers in the USA the 400 became the first Ferrari to offer automatic transmission as an option. The unit chosen - General Motors' three-speed Hydra-Matic 400 - was widely regarded as the world's best, having been used by Cadillac and subsequently by Rolls-Royce and Jaguar among others. More than two-thirds of buyers chose the automatic option. The lavishly appointed 400GT featured self-levelling independent rear suspension, power-assisted steering, electric windows and optional air conditioning. Its arrival re-affirmed Ferrari's determination to compete with the world's finest luxury saloons, though the car's biggest potential market - the USA - remained effectively closed to it because of safety and emissions legislation. Even after it received Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection in 1979, the model - now renamed '400i' - remained effectively a Europe-only car. The 412i evolution debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985 and featured a small (119cc) capacity increase, anti-lock brakes, revised interior and bumpers colour co-ordinated with the bodywork. An improved front air dam and raised boot deck reduced the 412i's already low co-efficient of drag by around ten percent. This 'Blu Medio Metallic' car was delivered new in 1986 by Auto Becker to a Mr. Jung. He owned the car in his company's name until 1990 and then took it into his private ownership until 2018, when it was sold to the current vendor. The car is showing 29,402kms on the odometer today. In 2004, it was recorded as having covered 24,463kms, so it would seem that the car has been used very sparingly in recent years. Always serviced, from new to the present day, by Michel Weber Ferrari, the car comes with a full and up-to-date service history and its original German registration documents. Prior to the sale, the car has received a complete dry ice cleaning of the underside, a complete detailing with a wax protection applied and a complete ceramic coating.
